General entry requirements
For Bachelor’s Level
In order to meet the general entry requirements for bachelor's level studies, all students must:
- have successfully completed their upper secondary (high school) education.
- be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent.
Most courses and study programmes have specific entry requirements in addition to the general requirements listed above. These requirements are often linked to the area of study of the course or programme. For example, an economics course may require a level of upper secondary school math achievement that is higher than the equivalent of Mathematics A.
It is important that you submit your upper secondary (high school) qualifications and your university qualifications when applying for bachelor's level courses and programmes. For some courses and programmes, students are only offered places based on their upper secondary qualifications only and NOT on their university qualifications. It could happen that you are deemed unqualified based on your university qualifications if no students are selected from this group.
For Master’s Level
To meet the entry requirements for the master's level (second cycle or graduate) studies, you must:
- have been awarded a Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) from an internationally recognised university.
- be able to demonstrate proficiency in English by means of an internationally recognised test, e. g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent. Check the website of the university where you would like to study for more information about language requirements as they determine what level is required for each course and programme at this level.
In addition to the requirements described above, there may be specific entry requirements for the course or programme. These specific requirements are outlined in individual course or programme descriptions which can be found on the website of the university.
For Turkey:
Exemptions from providing an internationally recognised test
For entry to a master's programme, the minimum requirement is a 4-years bachelor's degree such as Lisans Diplomasi/Mühendislik Diplomasi or the equivalent.
If you have a passing grade from a 1-year preparatory English class at a Turkish university, you are considered to have sufficient proficiency in English. Please note, however, that only a completed 1-year preparatory class will be accepted. Proficiency exams from Turkish universities are not accepted even if the exam has exempted you from the preparatory class. If the preparatory class is not included in the transcript, or if it is not clear from the transcript that the preparatory class was English, you need to ask your university to certify that you have studied a 1-year preparatory English class before starting your bachelor’s studies.
For Students in Their Final Year
Students who do not hold the required degree, but are registered for the last semester of a programme leading to such a degree, may be accepted by some universities.
Some universities will accept a transcript after 6 semesters of completed studies, while others require 7 semesters.
An official document stating that you are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the Swedish programme must be sent in with your application. The document must be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar's Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of the institution. Certification from other staff members, such as faculty or college staff members, will not be accepted.
