“Tag questions” are small questions that are added at the end of a sentence to get the other person's approval, confirmation or agreement. It is usually used by adding a question such as “isn't it?”, “aren't they?”, “won't you?” to the end of a statement. This structure is a common means of communication in English.

For example:

It's a beautiful day, isn't it?
You like coffee, don't you?
They are coming to the party, aren't they?
She won't be late, will she?
This structure changes depending on whether a “positive” or “negative” phrase is added at the end of the sentence. If the main clause has a positive phrase, the tag question will usually be negative and vice versa. For example, “You like coffee” is followed by “don't you?”, while “You don't like coffee” is followed by “do you?”.

Tag questions are often used to keep the conversation flowing, to keep the other person interested or to confirm the truth of an idea.
